The impact of FITS in schools has produced many benefits. Schools taking part in an evaluation of FITS have found that they achieved:
- better accountability of technical support and an improved customer service ethos.
- improved communication and therefore better relationships between the technical team, teachers and senior managers.
- a shift away from reactive fire fighting to a proactive approach to managing the technology.
- quicker response to incidents and greater consideration of what teachers need.
- improved management of change, since the process became more methodical, better planned and communicated.
- a more strategic approach to integrating ICT into the school planning and budgeting processes.
Schools taking part in the research considered FITS to offer sensible, pragmatic and useful guidelines for managing ICT technical support. As such, the guidelines were readily adopted and valued, particularly by the technical support staff.
