This month Guy Bates, XMA's Business Development Director comments on XMA's launch of FITS training courses....

FRAMEWORK FOR IT Support (FITS) Training and Qualification for IT professionals in Education
‘I wish I could be more effective’ - Network Manager in a school.
School IT Technicians and Network Managers are the unsung heroes of many of our UK schools.
Many do not know how well they are really doing in their jobs. There has been no specific professional qualification to help guide them in providing a quality service to students and school staff. Often they are under appreciated.
Some spend their time fighting fires but do not have the training to enable them to follow processes that would allow them to take control and get ahead of the issues and improve the embedding of ICT in the classroom.
FITS provides a recognised qualification with Higher National credits as a Level 5 Certificate in ICT Support in Education for Managers and Level 4 for Technicians providing real recognition and career achievement.
‘Sounds great for my team and me to gain a professional qualification, but why would my school or authority send us on a course when we are already really busy’
If your school would like its ICT to run like a utility, to have a pro-active service for users and be able to measure performance then FITS is where it starts. Finance Directors and Bursers like FITS because it helps their IT teams report more objectively on their performance and show value for money.
‘How do I get FITS qualified?’
The FITS Foundation was established by Becta to professionalise the IT Support Industry in UK Schools. It has appointed XMA to run FITS training courses and oversee the exams set by the SQU.
These are run in by XMA in a regional training venue near you to improve your worth as an IT professional. Click here for more details on what the courses cover and where forthcoming courses are being held.
